Why did us president Truman fear the North Korean invasion of South Korea?

This was because of the phenomenon of the "Domino Effect". What this stated was that if one country fell to communism, other countries would follow suit, hence "domino". Korea was very early on this list, and Truman feared that if South Korea fell to communism, then that would help pave the way for other countries to do the same.
